With Lady Death: Scorched Earth launching on Kickstarter in about 5 weeks we thought it would be fun to do a character SNEAK PEAK for the upcoming story. 

 ATROCITY: 

A figment of Lady Death’s forgotten past, the devil woman known as ATROCITY has vowed to destroy our deadly diva at all costs. 

Her lethal desire is motivated by neither vengeance nor hate. Instead,  Atrocity simply wants to bolster her own wicked reputation. "To become a  legend,” Atrocity declares, “You must KILL a legend.”

Rumor has it Atrocity once studied under the mysterious Assassin Mages  of the Ninth Ring, but she was cast out only to seek immense power in  the darkest, nastiest corners of Hell. 

 GAUGE:

To GAUGE, an elite mercenary employed by the nefarious HALO corporation, life is war.

Descended from Samurai, Gauge has embarked on a quest to become earth's  deadliest man. To this end, he has poisoned his body with combat drugs  and sacrificed his own humanity for the sake of necro-enhanced  cybernetics.

He claims his ultimate goal is to rid the planet of “evil” supernatural  entities plaguing mankind. But in truth, Gauge fights because it is all  he has ever known. 

 HANNYA:

Almost nothing is known about the supernatural entity known as Hannya.

A mere teenager, her mystic powers appear to rival Hell's most lethal sorceresses.

But why does she call Gauge—a man claiming to hate “unnaturals”—her father? And why does she share Lady Death’s ghost-pale skin?

Coffin Comics Interviews Lady Death: Scorched Earth Artist Diego Bernard!

What a great introduction to Lady Death’s new interior artist Diego Bernard on the upcoming Lady Death: Scorched Earth Kickstarter!

We sat down with Diego to learn more about this super talented artist!

Coffin Comics: What does Lady Death mean to you?

Diego Bernard: Lady Death evokes fond memories for me, as I have been a fan of the book for many years, going back to when I first started drawing in the early 2000s. As a fan of the book, and of the terrific artists that have come before me, Lady Death feels like a bit of a career milestone for me in that my work will now sit next to the work of artists that have inspired and informed my work over the years. It is an honor and also a big responsibility now to sit at the drawing table, and hopefully be able to help inspire the next generation of comic artists in the same way that I was inspired through Lady Death.

CC: What are you trying to bring to Lady Death with your art?

DB: I try to be as clear and precise and detailed in my work as possible, so that the art is equal parts aesthetically beautiful, and strong storytelling. It is easy to do one or the other well, but for me the true challenge is in finding the perfect balance of the two.

CC: What do you think Lady Death fans should know about the creation process?

DB: My creation process is fairly "normal" and very similar to what other artists might do, but I love to search for images on the internet, and also from the concept art of movies and games. I am constantly drawing inspiration from the popular culture around me. If it inspires me, hopefully that will also translate to the reader through my art.

CC: What inspires you when you draw Lady Death?

DB: Lady Death has a great theme, and I love the opportunity to draw some bizarre things (and also beautiful women)! I like the challenges that Lady Death presents. I feel like I am constantly learning and growing as an artist as I work on Lady Death, and hopefully my work also continues to improve as a result.

Exclusive Interview With Lady Death: Scorched Earth Co-Writer Mike MacLean!

We sat down with Lady Death co-writer Mike MacLean to see what more he could reveal!!!

Coffin Comics: What should we expect from Scorched  Earth? We are left with a lot unanswered questions from Nightmare  Symphony, which was more of a prequel to Chaos Rules. How does Scorched  Earth fit into the story line?

Mike MacLean: Scorched Earth picks up right where  Apocalyptic Abyss left off. After a brutal confrontation with Hellwitch  and the Hellbourne Elders, Lady Death and the Hellraiders arrive on  Earth (Man, there’s a helluva lot of hell’s in that sentence). Their  mission—save humanity from the extinction-level threat brought on by the  psychotically powerful Trinity and eliminate the mysterious Hellbourne  terrorists known as The Sect. Unfortunately, the moment Lady Death steps  foot on Earth she becomes the target of HALO, a nefarious conglomerate  seeking to weaponize supernatural power so they can wipe “unnaturals”  off the face of the globe. Without warning, Lady Death is thrust in a  bloody fight for survival—a fight that will cost her a very dear price.

CC: Why should the Fiends be excited about this Lady Death: Scorched Earth Kickstarter?

MM: If you’ve ever backed a Coffin Comics kickstarter,  you know the madness that is about to ensue. Brian always delivers a  slew of amazing covers from the best artists in the business and a ton  of fun stretch goals. And, you might've noticed, with each new story we  ratchet up the action, thrills, and drama. Scorched Earth is no  exception.  

Need more enticement? I have two words for you—DIEGO BERNARD.  To put it simply, Lady Death’s new interior artist is crazy talented.  I’m so excited to work with him. Just look at his Hellwitch: Hellbourne  pages and you’ll be blown away. I foresee a bright future for Diego, and  this is a chance for Fiends to get in on his very first Lady Death  issue.

CC: Why should someone new to Kickstarter or someone “on the fence” back this new Lady Death Kickstarter?

MM: If you love fast-paced, supernatural stories full  of action, dark magic, and sexy femme fatales then you can’t go wrong  with Lady Death: Scorched Earth. Plus, you get to join in on the insane  circus that is a Brian Pulido kickstarter. I love visiting comic shops  and soaking in all the nerdy goodness. Yet there is something so  exciting about being in on the ground floor of a brand new story—to read  it first, to get exclusive artwork. But be warned, backing Coffin  kickstarters can be addictive as hell.

CC: Any last words? Surprises you want to hint at?

MM: Expect the unexpected. In this chapter our diva of  death will suffer a loss like never before. Will she exact blood-stained  vengeance or suffer crushing defeat? Back Lady Death: Scorched Earth to  find out.

Not only do we have HELLWITCH series illustrator DIEGO BERNARD on board but Brian Pulido also constructed another insane story to keep you on the edge of your seat! 

THE STORY

Twenty years ago, The earth as we know it  was irrevocably changed in the aftermath of Lady Death’s epic battle  with Atrocity, The Mother of Abominations. A major city was laid to  waste, and though she saved the day, Lady Death was labeled a global  threat. And then – Lady Death disappeared.
 

Set against this backdrop, and with the extinction level villainy of The  Trinity threatening humanity, Lady Death returns to present day earth.
 

Will she be seen as friend or foe? Is she humanity’s salvation or  destruction? Featuring the insidious villainy of The Halo Corporation,  the Hellbourne terrorist organization known as The Sect and I am sorry  to say, the death of a beloved character. This one is gonna hurt, folks.
